My favorite Summer Salad

0 Permalink

There is probably no faster, healthier, prettier and better tasting summer salad out there to me, than my own. Sounds super egoistic, I know.  To be honest though, there really isn’t a dinner that is done faster for me, than this one. I take about 10 minutes to prepare it and have a super yummy dish infront of me – one that can be done at any size and really fills me up. This one is made up of about two handful of green salads, ¼ cucumber and 1 peach cut up into small pieces and a handful of blueberries. Last but not least, I add my beloved balsamic vinegar. I usually don’t add any oil to it, as I’m not the biggest fan of it – unless we are talking about white bread dipped in olive oil, sprinkled with salt. Or when talking about my favorite oil of all times: macadamia oil. If you have not tried this one, I really, really encourage you to do so. I only really tasted it a few weeks ago, when being invited to a dinner at a friends. He told me it was the best and oh my, – he really didn’t lie.

What do you guys think of the salad & fruit combination- do you have a favorite? I wish you all a great sunday!

A Healthy Coconut Flash

3 Permalink

Happy Sunday everyone! For those of you following me on my instragram – you might have noticed my slight obsession with smoothies lately! A few of my friends have asked me about what recipes I use and so I’ve decided to share one of my favorite smoothies with you today. I’ll be honest, normally there is no fixed recipe to my breakfast smoothie. I shop all different kinds of fruit and always have a large choice at home. Upon waking up I spontaneously then decide what will go into my smoothie. Rarely do I ever prepare them the night before, unless I know I won’t have time in the morning.

Here are the ingredients for this delicious fruity coconut-water smoothie:

– ⅓ mango
– 1 peach
– 1 kiwi
– 1 orange (peeled, of course)
– 1 apple
– 330 ml coconut water

Quickly cut everything into pieces and peel the fruit (apple and peach upon choice), throw everything in the mixer and add the coconut water to it – voila – there goes the amazingly refreshing smoothie. This one was actually a lunch I took with me to the office, as I knew I wouldn’t have too much time that day.

Do you guys have any smoothie recipes, that you cannot live without? I’d love to hear all about them!

Healthy Party Style

Following all of these majorly inspiring blogs out there, I couldn’t help it, but not over-look these amazingly colorful straws. Going into the english bookstore this week to find a special read, I finally found the straws I’ve been seeing all over the web. Honestly, how sad is it, that I can get so excited for paper-straws in differently stripped colors? Well, I can. Not only did I buy one color – no – I bought four. A few days previous to buying them, my lovely mom actually got me the black and white ones. Additionally, she got me the book on how to create the perfect Macarons. Doesn’t this literally scream for some more baking? I surely think so and cannot wait to try making my favorite sweets ever!

The cute green box with the coffee print is from one of my favorite cafés in Zurich – Babu’s Coffeehouse. The food, the coffee, the brunch – the juices – and especially the interior, it’s all made with so much love. I recently went there for brunch with my girls. When I told my mother about it, wanting to show her some cute little places in Zurich, she obviously already knew about it – and loves the place as well! So Babu’s is surely one of those coffeehouses I really recommend to anyone that lives or visits Zurich and loves to enjoy a great coffee, brunch or even green juice (so little places in Zurich have green juices!).

While strolling around the food section at Globus, I couldn’t help myself but stop by this with-love-packed Earl Grey Tea. I love myself some Earl Grey on those chilly days and adding that I still needed a tea strainer for some of my teas, made the decision upon buying it just so much easier.

I am now ready to sip my morning smoothies, color harmonized, with my straws and ready for those more chilly days, which are surprisingly often this summer in Zurich. I seriously cannot wait for my next smoothie!

Indulge in an Avocado-Egg Salade

0 Permalink

Avocado: It’s a fruit I cannot get enough of. I used to not be so into it, until I found the different ways to combine it. I love it plain with some vinegar, blended in my green smoothies or mushed in an avocado-egg salade. The recipe? Super simple! It takes literally two minutes, more or less two main ingredients and some bread with it, if you like. Not only is it super yummy, but also super healthy to have. I could eat an avocado a day, literally. So here is the quickest and simplest recipe, when it comes to my avocado-egg salade.

Ingredients:

– 2 hard-boiled eggs
– 1 ripe avocado
– salt & pepper
– chilli, if you like
– ½ lemon

All you have to do is cook the two eggs until hard-boiled, mush the already ripe avocado and add the two eggs to it. I normally cut the egg into smaller pieces, which makes the mixing in the end easier and makes less of a mess. Now, depending on your taste, add as much salt, pepper, lemon and chilli to it, as you like. Voila – there goes your avocado-salade. I love having it on some pumpernickel (the super dark bread) or with some bread in general.

Do you have any great recipes made with avocado, you would like to share? I’d love to get some more inspiration!

Donna and Gwyneth

If there is one thing I love, it’s got to be cooking (and baking). The other day I was looking for some new recipes, especially now that the summer is coming up. I love simple, quick recipes, that I can do easily when coming home after work. I really often look at online recipes to find myself some inspiration, though love having an actual book at hand. As much as I’m a total lover of the internet and accessing new information in almost-real-time, I still love having actual books when reading – old-fashioned, I know.

I’m quite the little fan of Donna Hay when it comes to cooking and had to buy the new book. Actually, I bought a different one first, and my mom bought the one depicted on the above photo. But she decided she liked the recipes more in my book, and vica versa. It’s always great, when you’ve got several cooking-lovers in the family and close-by and can easily switch around what was just bought. If you haven’t already checked out the website, you really should: Donna Hay has got some amazing recipes!

Not only am I a little fan of Donna Hay, but also of Gwyneth Paltrow. I keep checking her blog, goop.com, to see what new recipes she has put up. And what’s easier then checking at all times? Exactly, a book. The other day, while looking for her book online on Amazon, I instantly decided to buy some american measuring-spoons as well. A must-have, for some of the amazing recipes. You might have noticed from my last recipe, that I used the measuring spoons to get the perfect end-result. Investing a little money can sometimes bring such great results – so if you’re still looking for some measuring-spoons, I can only recommend these ones!

Where do you get your cooking inspiration, any favorite books, blogs or websites? I’m always happy to receive new tips!
